CHS Students Paint Mural

A group of talented art students from Century High School are leaving their mark on the community, one mural at a time. With the help of staff, their latest masterpiece, a massive 16-foot by 32-foot hand-painted jaguar mural, is now the centerpiece of the gymnasium at the brand new Peralta Elementary School.
Led by art teacher Amanda Quintana, the students took the lead on the project, handling everything from the design to the final brushstrokes.
“The students really took charge,” Quintana said. “They did it, and it was a lot of fun.”
One of the students, L.L., was especially excited to be involved. As a former Peralta Elementary student, she was thrilled to contribute a piece of art that will inspire students for years to come.

“It was really cool to see thhe new school now that I’m older,” she said. “It was a fun experience, and I’m just glad I got to be a part of it.”
The vibrant mural has been such a success that other schools in the district are requesting the Century High artists to create murals for their campuses as well. This initiative not only provides a lasting piece of art for the new elementary school but also gives the high schoolers valuable, real-world experience.
Quintana describes the project as a legacy, highlighting the importance of art education and how

students can use their skills to create a welcoming and inspiring environment.
“It’s going to be around for years to come, and the kids are so proud of what they accomplished,” she said.
For students like J.L., who also worked on the mural, the project is a source of immense pride. “It means a lot,” J.L. said. “I feel like our work is inspiring people and that students at Century have something to offer.”

The Century High School art students have also created a desert-themed mural in their school’s teachers’ lounge and a large sign featuring a Centurion helmet mascot. Other schools at LLS are now working with CHS for artwork at their sites.
The brand-new Peralta Elementary School is a two-story campus that is expected to
